Acyclovir Cream 5%
Oral formulations of acyclovir are indicated for the treatment of infections caused by the herpes simplex virus on the skin and mucous membranes, including recurrent genital herpes, recurrent herpes simplex in immunocompromised patients, prophylaxis of herpes simplex in immunocompromised patients, infections by the varicella-zoster virus, and herpes zoster. It is also used for the management of severely immunocompromised patients, such as those with advanced HIV disease, CD4 lymphocyte counts < 200/mm3, including patients with AIDS or AIDS-related complex (ARC), or after bone marrow transplant. Oral acyclovir, when administered in combination with antiretroviral therapy, primarily with oral zidovudine, reduces mortality in patients with advanced HIV disease.
