Bacterial infections of variable locations, severity, and course caused by ampicillin-susceptible agents, both acute and chronic recurring infections of varying degrees of severity, for example, sepsis, endocarditis, and meningitis, primarily in Haemophilus influenzae, enterococci, and ampicillin-susceptible Listeria, if necessary in combination with another appropriate antibiotic. Respiratory tract infections. Bordetella pertussis (early treatment and prophylaxis) in childhood. Urinary tract infections. Infections in gynecology and obstetrics. Biliary tract infections. Bacterial intestinal infections caused by Salmonella spp., Shigella spp., and E. coli. Treatment for persistent carriers of Salmonella typhi. Severe infections, such as sepsis, endocarditis, meningitis, gynecological-obstetric infections, and salmonella carriers, may initially require parenteral administration. Subsequently, treatment is continued orally. In dentistry: prophylaxis and treatment of oral cavity infections. AMPICILLIN can be administered during pregnancy.
