Meropenem For Injection 500mg
Meropenem is an antimicrobial agent used in the treatment of intra-abdominal infections caused by susceptible microorganisms in adults and children aged 3 months and older. It is also effective in respiratory tract infections and as empirical therapy in febrile neutropenic patients; however, it is advisable to perform drug susceptibility tests prior to starting therapy. Meropenem is indicated for infections caused by the following microorganisms: infections of the upper and lower respiratory tract, including nosocomial pneumonia; infections of the urinary tract, including complicated or multi-drug resistant infections; intra-abdominal infections; gynecological infections, such as endometritis, pelvic inflammatory disease, and postpartum infections; serious skin and soft tissue infections; meningitis; and septicemia. Meropenem is also indicated as monotherapy for bacterial meningitis caused by susceptible microorganisms in children aged 3 months and older. It has been demonstrated that meropenem is effective in the treatment of polymicrobial infections due to its broad-spectrum bactericidal activity against gram-positive, gram-negative, aerobic, and anaerobic bacteria. Intravenous meropenem has been successfully used in patients with cystic fibrosis and chronic lower respiratory tract infections, either as monotherapy or in combination with other antibacterial agents.
