- Vancomycin is an alternative to beta-lactam antibiotics in the treatment of serious infections caused by gram-positive microorganisms in patients allergic to these antibiotics.
- Surgical prophylaxis in certain interventions that involve the implantation of prosthetic material in an environment with a high incidence of infections caused by meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus.
- The use of vancomycin is recommended for the prophylaxis of bacterial endocarditis in high-risk patients allergic to beta-lactam antibiotics and who are going to undergo certain dental or surgical procedures.
